Full Opening the Breath Course Description:
Structural Essentials is a completely redesigned program that includes a series of short intensives to give you a solid, reliable, and holistic way of working. Each workshop can be taken as a stand alone or part of the full ATSI training programme. This series of workshops will take you to a new level in therapy by combining movement and specific manual techniques for the most efficient and long-lasting results, using the latest research on the interaction between skeleton, myofascia, joints, and fascial proprioceptors.
See how inefficient mechanics in one spot can lead to overuse problems (and pain) somewhere quite distant from the original issue – and then use both movement and manual techniques to make quick, effective and lasting improvements.
Each course focuses on 15-20 core ‘templates’ for technique, which can be applied in different ways for different patterns in your clients. We will teach you the relevant structural anatomy for the area and the common postural and movement implications around each of them.
Opening the Breath:
This is the third workshop in the Structural Essentials series. We have looked at arch balance and pelvis balance and now turn our attention to balancing the ribcage above. With the aim of aligning the pelvic and respiratory diaphragms. Achieving a balanced reciprocity between these two structures is essential to what is now termed ‘core support’ and long-term human biomechanical and respiratory health.
This course focuses on: ribcage and thoracic spine mechanics and includes:
- The anatomy and physiology of the breath
- Various therapeutic views of the ‘normal’ breath
- Techniques for abdominal fascia, ribs, vertebral rib joints and mediastinal visceral tissues, diaphragm, scalene and lumbar muscles
- Techniques for facilitation of the ‘breath wave’ into the front, back and sides as well as into each ‘quadrant ‘ of the rib cage
Aims of the Workshop
- Build a foundation for Structural Integration work
- Understand the ribcage and its influence on the rest of the body via the Anatomy Trains
- Give and progressively build on a system v. symptom based approach to healing
- Use functional & structural assessments to formulate session strategies
- Apply Fascial Release work based on anatomy and body patterns
Note: Anatomy Trains in Structure & Function course MUST be taken before taking the SE courses. Familiarity with the Anatomy Trains lines and concepts is key to getting the most from the program.
